Toronto Blue Jays & Dylan Cease Reach A Deal

The defending American League Champion Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a seven-year deal with right-handed pitcher Dylan Cease. The deal is for $210 million. Cease made 32 starts with the Padres going 8-12 with a 4.55 ERA, a 3.56 FIP, a 1.33 WHIP, and 215 strikeouts in 168 innings. The Padres will receive a fourth round compensation pick in the 2026 MLB Draft. The Blue Jays now have a stacked starting rotation entering the 2026 season. The deal now gives the Blue Jays a projected starting rotation of Cease, Kevin Gausman, Trey Yesavage, Shane Bieber, Jose Berrios, and Eric Lauer.

Dylan Cease

Cease has made 188 career big league starts going 65-58 with a 3.88 ERA, a 3.67 FIP, a 1.27 WHIP, and 1,231 strikeouts in 1,015.1 innings. He finished second in Cy Young Award voting in 2022 when with the White Sox and fourth in 2024 with the Padres. Cease finished 22nd in MVP voting in both of those seasons. He has made five career postseason appearances with four of those coming as starts going 0-1. He has an 8.74 ERA, a 5.01 FIP, a 1.94 WHIP, and 13 strikeouts in 11.1 innings. Cease was drafted by the Cubs in the sixth round of the 2014 MLB Draft. The Cubs traded him to the White Sox in 2017. The White Sox traded Cease to the Padres in 2024.
