The Detroit Tigers minor league affiliates last week combined to go 15-10 and combined to outscore their opponent 133-112. The Triple-A affiliate, the Toledo Mud Hens, and High-A West Michigan went 3-3 each, Toledo was outscored 31-24 while West Michigan outscored their opponent 39-29. Double-A Erie went 4-2 and outscored their opponent 31-29. Finally, Single-A Lakeland had the best week going 5-2, and outscored their opponent 39-23. The Tigers had three prospects named Player of the Week, two of which came from the Flying Tigers as outfielder Jose De La Cruz was named Hitter of the Week in the Florida State League and LHP Gabriel Reyes took home Pitcher of the Week honors in the FSL. The third prospect was second baseman Max Anderson from West Michigan who took home Hitter of the Week in the Midwest League.
De La Cruz last week went 9-25 in seven games for a .360 average; he had a double, three home runs, eight RBI, eight runs scored, four walks, and a stolen base. Reyes made one start picking up the win going six innings giving up one run on two hits; he walked one and struck out 11. Anderson went 12-26 for a .462 average; he had three doubles, a home run, seven RBI, seven runs scored, and two walks.
Jose De La Cruz Career
De La Cruz was signed by the Tigers as an international free agent in 2018. In his first season in the system, he played for the Tigers in the Dominican Summer League, he played in 56 games, and he hit .307 with a .931 OPS; he had 13 doubles, five triples, 11 home runs, 39 RBI, 55 runs scored, 16 stolen bases, and 18 walks. In 2021 he played for the Tigers rookie league team and Lakeland playing in 83 games he hit .203 with a .596 OPS; he had 12 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 25 RBI, 35 runs scored, 13 stolen bases, and 27 walks. In 2022 he played again in the rookie league and for Lakeland in 98 games he hit .204 with a .636 OPS; he had 12 doubles, a triple, 11 home runs, 45 RBI, 36 runs scored, four stolen bases, and 30 walks. Last season he played at Lakeland and in 89 games he hit .243 with a .738 OPS; he had 14 doubles, 12 home runs, 51 RBI, 53 runs scored, two stolen bases, and 46 walks. This season in 113 games at Lakeland he is hitting .235 with a .713 OPS; he has 16 doubles, two triples, 15 home runs, 72 RBI, 60 runs scored, nine stolen bases, and 37 walks.
Gabriel Reyes Career
Reyes was signed by the Tigers as an international free agent in 2020. In 2021 he joined the Tigers system pitching in the Dominican Summer League where he made 15 appearances with five of them coming as starts going 2-3 with a 3.42 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP, a 1.5 BB/9, and a 12.2 K/9 in 23.2 innings. In 2022 he pitched for the Tigers’ rookie team making ten appearances with six coming as starts going 0-5 with a 5.29 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, a 2.5 BB/9, and an 8.1 K/9 in 32.1 innings. He did not pitch in 2023. This season he’s pitched for the Tigers rookie team and Lakeland making 17 appearances with 13 of those coming as starts going 4-3 with a 3.97 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP, a 2.6 BB/9, and an 11.2 K/9 in 65.2 innings.
Max Anderson Career
Anderson was drafted by the Tigers in the second round of the 2023 MLB draft out of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 2023 he played for Single-A Lakeland playing in 32 games combined hitting .289 with a .790 OPS; he had 12 doubles, a triple, two home runs, 21 RBI, 18 runs scored, two stolen bases, and 12 walks. This season in 118 games at West Michigan he’s hitting .268 with a .710 OPS; he has 20 doubles, three triples, 11 home runs, 70 RBI, 62 runs scored, one stolen base, and 34 walks.
