The Texas Rangers faced off with several Cactus League foes, rising and falling in the standings throughout the week. Wednesday saw the Los Angeles Dodgers first loss of Spring Training with a score of 6-4 Rangers. Thursday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers ended in a score of 7-5 Rangers, while Friday, the San Francisco Giants handed the Rangers a thorough defeat with the score of 11-5 Giants. The Rangers answered on Saturday against the Chicago White Sox with a score of 14-3 Rangers. Sunday, the Rangers went on the road to fall to the Oakland Athletics with a score of 5-2 Athletics.
On Monday, the team returned to Surprise to go toe-to-toe with the Los Angeles Angels, managed by former Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington. Before that game, Ron had nothing but praise for his former team. Washington says, “Before we get started, I just want to congratulate these Texas Rangers on being World Series champs….they deserve it.” If you recall, Ron Washington was the last manager to take the team to the World Series, but unlike Bruce Bochy, came away with two devastating losses in 2010 (ironically to Bochy) and 2011.
Tuesday’s game against the Seattle Mariners was exciting. Former Ranger Mitch Garver came up against his old teammates and ended up with a two-run home run off of Rangers pitcher Cole Winn. The game was a fight to the very end, with the Rangers coming out on top with a score of 10-9 Rangers. As the rankings stand now, the Rangers have a current record of 7-4-1.
