St. Louis Cardinals Rumors: Starter Emerging as Possible Trade Candidate

Heading into the 2023 season, the St. Louis Cardinals had high hopes. However, even after winning eight out of their last 10 games, they remain at the bottom of the NL Central with an 18-26 record. Their horrid start to the year has made their chances of making the playoffs rather slim, and they are likely to be sellers at the deadline because of it. As a result, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, Jack Flaherty could be on the move.

Flaherty is in the final season of his contract and is eligible to be an unrestricted free agent this winter. As a result, he is gearing up to be a prime rental candidate. When noting that playoff teams are always looking to improve their rotation, he should receive plenty of interest.

Flaherty is having a rough 2023 season, however, as he sports a 3-4 record to go along with a 5.24 ERA. Overall, it has not been the kind of start that the 6-foot-4 righty was hoping for, but when looking at his previous success, he is a clear bounce-back candidate as the year rolls on.

Teams looking for pitching like the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Los Angeles Angels could be some of the clubs in the mix for his services.

We will need to see if Flaherty finds a new home before the deadline passes from here.
