St. Louis Cardinals Roster Moves 4/24

St. Louis Cardinals Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The St. Louis Cardinals are 10-14 and finish a series with the Diamondback today. Last night they got blown out 14-1 by the Diamondbacks. They will head to New York this weekend for a three-game series against the Mets. Today they have announced four roster moves ahead of the series finale with the Diamondbacks.

LHP – John King

The Cardinals have recalled King from the Memphis Redbirds today. He has already appeared in two games this year for the Cardinals pitching 2.1 innings in his first opportunity with the big club. He has a 3.86 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. He has one loss and struck out four so far.

SS – Jose Fermin

The Cardinals have recalled Fermin from the Memphis Redbirds today. So far he’s played 18 games for the Redbirds with 16 runs scored, 21 hits, six doubles, four home runs, and 10 RBIs. He’s slashing .350/.458/.650 with a 1.108 OPS.

LHP – Zack Thompson

Zack was optioned to the Memphis Redbirds today at Triple-A. He has pitched in five games this year with two starts. He had two losses and recorded a 9.53 ERA so far. He has pitched in 17 innings giving up 24 hits, 18 earned runs, nine free passes, and 20 strikeouts.

3B/OF- Jordan Walker

Walker was optioned to Triple-A today where he will play for the Memphis Redbirds. He has played 20 games so far this year with four runs scored, nine hits, four doubles, one triple, and four RBIs. He is currently slashing .155/.239/.259 and a .498 OPS this year.

Wrap Up:

Jordan Walker has struggled mightily this year and has to be a concern for the Cardinals that their former top prospect has been underperforming. It will be interesting to see how Walker responds down Triple-A and whether or not we see him again with the big club before July. Thompson was another disappointment for the Cardinals as they were hoping he could be a contributor to the rotation/bullpen, but with an ERA over nine the Cardinals just cannot afford to keep him with the big club. Hopefully, these two can figure things out in Memphis and make their way back to the majors to contribute.
