The St. Louis Cardinals are 25-18 after winning the last game of the series against the Athletics. They’re 2.5 games back of the Cubs for first place in the National League Central, and they’re 0.5 games back of the Dodgers for the top wild card spot in the National League; they do hold a playoff spot.

MLB Game Recap

The Cardinals went down 1-0 in the first as Nick Kurtz, for the second straight game, homered. This one was only a solo shot. St. Louis tied it in the fifth as Victor Scott hit a solo home run. The Cardinals’ offense took the lead in the sixth, starting with a Jordan Walker solo home run, then Nolan Gorman drove home Masyn Winn on a single to make it 3-1. The A’s would take the lead in the seventh after a solo home run and a two-RBI single. In the ninth, the Cardinals took control with an RBI single by Ivan Herrera, and a double by Walker made it 5-4, which was the final. Michael McGreevy pitched well, going six innings, allowing a run on five hits. He walked one and struck out three.

Jordan Walker drove in two of the five Cardinals runs in the win as he finished the game going 2-5.

Key News & Notes

JJ Wetherholt had his hitting streak snapped in the win. His on-base streak is now up to seven games as he walked today and he also scored a run.

  • Memphis Redbirds (AAA): Leo Bernal went 2-4 with a solo home run in the first in a 7-6 extra inning loss to Jacksonville.
  • Springfield Cardinals (AA): Trey Paige went 2-2 with three RBI and two runs scored. He also walked twice in a 7-2 win over the Drillers.
  • Peoria Chiefs (A+): Tre Richardson scored both runs in a 5-2 loss to the Sky Carp.
  • Palm Beach Cardinals (A): Facundo Velasquez went 1-4 but drove in two in a 7-2 win over the Tortugas.
  • FCL Cardinals (ROK): The FCL Cardinals were off today and they return tomorrow against the FCL Nationals.
