Seattle Mariners Roster Moves: Victor Robles Update 4/8

Seattle Mariners Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

In the series finale against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, Victor Robles made an incredible play diving into the net in the right-field corner. He came away from the play in some pain and was carted off the field. On Monday, March 7th, the Mariners placed Victor Robles on the 10-Day IL and re-called Dominic Canzone from Triple-A Tacoma.

Victor Robles

Robles came to the Mariners after he was released by the Washington Nationals back in June of 2024. He burst on to the scene with the Mariners. Robles hit .328 with 20 doubles and four home runs in 77 games. He also had 30 stolen bases and was playing phenomenal defense for the Mariners. Once, Julio Rodriguez came back from his injury, Robles moved to right field and became an everyday player. This season, he had a .278 batting average with three doubles and three stolen bases prior to the injury. The Mariners had entered the 2025 season with a starting outfield of Robles, Rodriguez and Randy Arozarena. Robles had earned his way to becoming the Mariners leadoff hitter with his success and consistent on-base prowess. Losing him for any stretch will not help the Mariners playoff hopes.

Per the Mariners, imaging was taken on Monday and the MRI revealed that not only was the shoulder dislocated, but there was a small fracture in the humeral head of his left shoulder. As of now, it appears that the fracture will heal without any needed surgery. If that remains to be the case, then the fracture would heal in about six weeks and would need six weeks worth of rehab. Creating an estimated time for his return at about three months (late June). If his shoulder does require surgery, it could be longer. The good news for the Mariners is he will be back at some point this season, and could provide a late-season boost to the team’s lineup if they are in playoff contention.

Dominic Canzone

The M’s recalled Canzone once they placed Robles on the IL. He has shown flashes of being a productive player at the big-league level but struggled in 2024. In 67 games, he hit .196 with seven doubles, eight home runs, 20 runs and 17 RBI. He had split the season between the Mariners and the Rainiers. Before this year, he did not make the big league roster out of spring training and started the season with Tacoma. Prior to being called up, Canzone was hitting .276/.344/.517 with one double, two home runs, six runs scored and two RBI in the first eight games of the Triple-A season. With Robles now confirmed to be out for an extended amount of time, Canzone will get his shot to prove he can productive at the big league level.

Luke Raley, Dylan Moore and Miles Mastrobuoni could also see some time in the outfield in the absence of Victor Robles.
