The San Francisco Giants have lost five straight games. They were swept by the Blue Jays over the weekend coming out of the All-Star break. Last night, they dropped the series opener against the Braves 9-5. The Giants are 52-49 and seven games back in the NL West entering play today. The Giants are three and a half games back from the last wild card spot. The Padres currently hold this spot. This is before game two of their series with the Braves. The San Francisco Giants made four roster moves. They are sending two arms back to Triple-A and are recalling two pitchers to fill their spots in the bullpen.

Hayden Birdsong back to Sacramento

The San Francisco Giants have optioned the right-handed pitcher back to Triple-A before today’s game. Birdsong has made ten starts and pitched in a total of 21 games this season for the Giants. He has a 4-4 record with a 4.80 ERA over 65 and two-thirds innings pitched. Birdsong struck out 68 batters and walked 37 during his time with the Giants. Birdsong allowed opposing teams a .242 batting average during his 21 games pitched. He will head to Sacramento to continue his season.

Sean Hjelle Returns

The San Francisco Giants have recalled right-handed relief pitcher Sean Hjelle from Triple-A today. He has pitched in nine games this year already for the Giants. Hjelle has a 1-1 record with a 6.75 ERA over 12 innings pitched this year. Hjelle has a 1.75 WHIP and a .283 batting average against while with the Giants.

Tristan Beck Optioned

The San Francisco Giants have optioned right-handed pitcher Tristan Beck to Triple-A. Beck pitched in ten games for the Giants in relief over 19 innings of work. He recorded one victory in his time, while recording a 5.68 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 11 strikeouts.

Carson Seymour Recalled

The San Francisco Giants have recalled Carson Seymour from Triple-A today. Seymour has pitched in two games this season for the Giants already. In the four innings he worked, he struck out two batters. He currently has a 4.50 ERA and a 1.75 WHIP for the Giants.
