He was the sixth-ranked outfielder and the 22nd overall player in Florida in 2020. As a junior, he hit .446 with 22 RBI and 27 runs scored. In his senior year, he hit .520 with ten RBI and 14 runs scored. However, the remainder of his season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Schanuel was the 18th-ranked outfielder nationally and ranked 95th overall. He committed to play college baseball at Florida Atlantic University.
