Kyle Teel was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey, on February 15, 2002. He played high school baseball at Mahwah High School in Mahwah, NJ. He was the first-ranked Catcher and the first-overall-ranked player in New Jersey. 

In his Junior year, Teel hit .574 with eight home runs and 31 RBI; he had an on-base percentage of .678 and a 1.164 slugging percentage. He also pitched, going 3-0 with three saves and striking out 16 in 11.2 innings of work.

Teel was the 142nd overall player and the 11th-ranked Catcher in the country.

Where Did Kyle Teel Go To College?

Teel attended the University of Virginia, and he would play three seasons there, slashing .343/.433/.547 with a .979 OPS; he had 48 doubles, four triples, 28 home runs, 170 runs scored, 13 stolen bases, and 97 walks. He also played for Harwich in the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2022, where he slashed .125/.276/.167 with a .443 OPS; he had one double, one RBI, three runs scored, and four walks.

After being drafted, Teel played for three different levels in the Red Sox organization: their rookie ball team, High-A Greenville, and Double-A Portland. In 26 games, he slashed .363/.483/.495 with a .977 OPS; he scored six doubles, two home runs, 22 RBI, 15 runs, three stolen bases, and 21 walks.

Future

ITD ranks Teel as the Red Sox’s third-ranked prospect and the 62nd overall prospect entering 2024. Teel isn’t expected to reach the Red Sox until 2026, but if he puts up numbers for an entire season as he did in a small sample size last year, he could force the Red Sox hand to call him up sooner.
