In his first season with the Padres organization, Salas played across three levels: Single-A Lake Elsinore, High-A Fort Wayne, and Double-A San Antonio. He combined to play in 66 games and slashed .248/.331/.421 with a .752 OPS; he had 13 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 41 RBI, 40 runs scored, five stolen bases, and 30 walks.

Salas was ranked as the eighth overall prospect by both Baseball America and MLB Pipeline. He played at High-A Fort Wayne playing in 113 games. Salas hit .206 with a .599 OPS. He had 27 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 53 RBI, 38 runs scored, ten stolen bases, and 47 walks. Salas would also appear in the Futures Game. He would go 1-2 with a run scored.
