Chase Burns was born in Napoli, Italy on January 16, 2003. He grew up in Gallatin, Tennessee, and played high school baseball at Beech High School in Hendersonville, TN. He was the top-ranked RHP and the top overall player in Tennessee in 2021. In his senior season, he made 11 appearances going 5-0 with a 0.68 ERA, a 0.52 WHIP, and 121 strikeouts in 51.1 innings. Burns was the fifth-ranked RHP nationally and the 17th overall player in the country. He was committed to playing college baseball at the University of Tennessee. He was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 20th round of the 2021 MLB Draft. However, he chose to attend Tennessee.

In his first season at Tennessee in 2022, Burns made 17 appearances. Out of these, 14 were starts. He went 8-2 with a 2.91 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and 103 strikeouts in 80.1 innings. In 2023, during his second season, he made 18 appearances. Eight of those were starts. He went 5-3 with a 4.25 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP, and 114 strikeouts in 72 innings. For the 2024 season, he transferred to Wake Forest University. In 2024, he made 16 starts and has gone 10-1 with a 2.70 ERA, a 0.92 WHIP, and 191 strikeouts in 100 innings.
