Brooks Lee was born in San Luis Obispo, California, on February 14, 2001. He played high school baseball at San Luis Obispo High School in San Luis Obispo, CA. He was the first-ranked shortstop and the second-ranked overall player in California.

In his sophomore year, Lee hit .438 with 42 hits, six doubles, one triple, one home run, 18 RBI, and 22 runs scored. In his junior year, he hit .462 with 48 hits, nine doubles, three triples, three home runs, 35 RBI, and 30 runs scored. In his senior year, he hit .405 with 32 hits, 13 doubles, two home runs, 25 RBI, and 26 runs scored. He finished his high school career hitting .437 with 122 hits, 28 doubles, four triples, six home runs, 78 RBI, and 78 runs scored. He also pitched, making five appearances, going 1-1 with a 0.00 ERA, one save, and 11 strikeouts.  

Lee was ranked the eighth shortstop in the country and the 26th-ranked overall player. He committed to play college baseball at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly).

Where Did Brooks Lee Go to College?

Lee played three seasons at Cal Poly, where he slashed .351/.426/.647 with a 1.073 OPS; he had 53 doubles, four triples, 25 home runs, 114 RBI, 104 runs scored, six stolen bases, and 64 walks. Over the Summer, he played for three different summer leagues. In 2019, he played for Corvallis of the West Coast League, slashing .343/.420/.466 with a .886 OPS; he had 12 doubles, two home runs, 30 RBI, 33 runs scored, 12 stolen bases, and 19 walks. In 2020, he played for Willmar of the Northwoods League and slashed .345/.393/.473 with a .866 OPS; he had seven doubles, four home runs, 35 RBI, 19 runs scored, one stolen base, and 12 walks. In 2021, he played for Yarmouth-Dennis of the Cape Cod Baseball League, where he slashed .405/.432/.667 with a 1.099 OPS; he had four doubles, six home runs, 13 RBI, 16 runs scored, and three walks.

When Was Brooks Lee Drafted?

Lee was initially drafted in 2019 in the 35th round by the San Francisco Giants but chose to attend Cal Poly. In 2022, entering the draft, he was the fifth-ranked prospect when the Minnesota Twins would take him with the eighth overall pick.

During Lee’s first season in the Twins organization, he played for the rookie ball team, High-A Cedar Rapids, and Double-A Wichita, where he combined to slash .303/.389/.451 with a .839 OPS; he had six doubles, four home runs, 15 RBI, 17 runs scored, and 16 walks in 31 games.

Lee entered last season as the 45th-ranked prospect by Baseball American and the 31st prospect by MLB.com. He played for Double-A Wichita and Triple-A St. Paul, where he played in 125 games and slashed .275/.347/.461 with a .808 OPS; he had 39 doubles, three triples, 16 home runs, 84 RBI, 83 runs scored, seven stolen bases, and 56 walks.

Future

ITD ranks Lee as the 23rd overall prospect and the Twins as the top-ranked prospect. He is expected to start the season at Triple-A and could debut in 2024, but it looks more likely in 2025.
