The Pittsburgh Pirates wrap up their three-game series with the Chicago Cubs this afternoon. The Pirates dropped the first two games of the series to the Cubs. Pittsburgh is 4-10 in September, averaging 2.9 runs per game while allowing four runs per game. Ahead of today’s game, the Pirates activated right-handed pitcher Yohan Ramírez from the paternity list. To allow Ramírez to return, they optioned right-handed pitcher Cam Sanders to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Ramírez this season in 19 games for the Pirates is 1-2 with a 5.90 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP, and 40 strikeouts in 29 innings. In 27 games at Triple-A he is 2-1 with seven saves, a 3.19 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, and 41 strikeouts in 31 innings. The Pirates are Ramírez’s eighth team in his six years in the big leagues.

Cam Sanders 

Sanders, in six appearances, has posted an 8.10 ERA, a 2.10 WHIP, and four strikeouts in 6.2 innings. He pitched in Monday’s loss, going 1.2 innings, giving up a run on two hits. He walked one and didn’t record a strikeout. In 39 games between Double-A and Triple-A, he is 4-2 with 13 saves, a 2.20 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, and 60 strikeouts in 49 innings.
