The Pittsburgh Pirates today will play a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers after last night’s game was rained out. The Pirates dropped the opener 7-3. Andrew Heaney will get the ball for Pittsburgh in game one against Tarik Skubal. Game two will be Paul Skenes, while the Tigers haven’t announced a starter for game two. Due to today being the doubleheader, the roster expands to 27, and the Pirates are using that spot on outfielder Jack Suwinski. In 16 games with Pittsburgh this season, he’s hitting .128 with a .398 OPS. He has a double, an RBI, four runs scored, three stolen bases, and six walks. In 41 games at Triple-A Indianapolis, he’s hitting .264 with an .871 OPS. He has seven doubles, a triple, nine home runs, 36 RBI, 29 runs scored, four stolen bases, and 17 walks.

Jack Suwinski

The San Diego Padres drafted Suwinski in the 15th round of the 2016 MLB Draft. The Pirates acquired him on July 26, 2021, in a trade that saw Adam Frazier go to the Padres. He’s played in 354 big league games with the Pirates, hitting .204 with a .706 OPS. He has 41 doubles, two triples, 54 home runs, 139 RBI, 141 runs scored, 29 stolen bases, and 149 walks.
