Pittsburgh Pirates Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Pittsburgh Pirates lost 3-2 against the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday in Grapefruit League action. They will face the Baltimore Orioles today at 6:05 PM. Before today’s game, the team has made a couple of roster moves as they continue to shape the rosters before opening day. The Pirates open the season on the road against the Miami Marlins on March 28th at 4:10 PM. The two moves below are two players who contributed with the Pirates last season and will start the year in the minors this season.

OF – Joshua Palacios

Palacios was optioned to AAA with the Indianapolis Indians this morning before the game this evening against the Orioles. Palacios played in five games this spring for the Pirates going hitless in 12 at-bats. He did manage to walk twice and score a run during his time in camp. Last year he played in 91 games for the Pirates he had nine doubles, two triples, 10 home runs, 40 RBIs, five stolen bases, and slashed .239/.279/.413 with a .692 OPS with the big club.

SS – Nick Gonzalez

Gonzalez was optioned to Triple AAA Indianapolis today by the Pirates ahead of the game this afternoon with the Orioles. Gonzalez this spring has played in 14 games with four runs, three doubles, one home run, and two RBIs, and slashed .257/.297/.429 with a .726 OPS this spring. Last year he played in 35 games with the Pirates scoring 12 runs, eight doubles, one triple, two home runs, 13 RBIs, 13 walks, and slashed .209/.268/.348 with a .616 OPS with the big club.
