The Philadelphia Phillies conclude their spring training schedule Monday when they play the Tampa Bay Rays in the Grapefruit League finale. The Phillies will head to Atlanta on Thursday, March 28th to face the division rival Braves to kick off the season. These two teams should be battling all year for the top spot in the National League East. The Phillies so far with one game and two games to finish are 9-14 on the year in Grapefruit League play. They made one trade and signed a pitcher to an extension today before their win against the Toronto Blue Jays.
LHP – Matt Strahm
Today the Phillies agreed to an extension with Matt Strahm that will extend him through 2025 for the Phillies. Strahm this spring has appeared in five games pitching five innings. He started one game, struck out nine, and walked two, with a 3.60 ERA, and a 0.60 WHIP this spring. Strahm last season started 10 games and appeared in 56 total throwing 87.2 innings. He had a record of 9-5 on the year with a 3.29 ERA, and a 1.02 WHIP on the season.
OF – Jake Cave
Jake Cave was traded this morning to the Colorado Rockies for cash ahead of the game with the Toronto Blue Jays. Cave played in 14 games, with 37 at-bats, three doubles, four RBIs, one walk, one steal, and slashed .324/.342/.405 with a .747 OPS this spring. Last season Cave played in 65 games with the Phillies getting 184 at-bats. He had 18 runs scored, eight doubles, one triple, five home runs, 21 RBIs, 15 walks, three steals, and slashed .212/.272/.348 with a .620 OPS on the season.
