Jeff Passan reports that the Brewers are sending former Cy Young winner Corbin Butned to the Orioles for prospects Joey Ortiz and MLB starter DL Hall. Ortiz is the #6 prospect in the Orioles system.

The Orioles add a much-needed piece to their already solid rotation as they push for the World Series after failing to win a playoff game last year. Baltimore is currently +1500 to win the World Series, according to Bet365.

Burnes is 45-27 and boasts a 13.5 Wins Above Reputation with a 3.26 Earned Run Average in his six-year career. This past season, he was 10 and 8 with a 3.39 Earned Run average, finishing sixth in Cy Young Award balloting.

As for what the Brewers are receiving, DL Hall came out of the bullpen 15 times and started three games on the mound. He finished 3-0 with a 3.26 Earned Run Average. Joey Ortiz made his MLB debut just this past season, finishing with a .212 batting average and a 26 OPS+, 84% below the league average. Still, he only appeared in 15 games as a temporary starter.

By adding Burnes, the Orioles look to secure the American League East for the second year in a row, while the Brewers could be possibly hinting at a rebuild since they wouldn’t trade Burnes if they had any interest in competing in a division that’s only getting better.
