The Minnesota Twins are about to start an important series with the Cleveland Guardians this week. The series will be four games as they currently trail the Guardians by 6.5 games and also hold a 2.5-game lead for the final wild-card spot with three teams chasing them in the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners who are the two teams that are 2.5 back and the Boston Red Sox who they face this weekend for three games are 4.5 games back. The Twins today claimed an LHP off waivers in Cole Irvin who comes over from the Baltimore Orioles and with that addition, they designated RHP Randy Dobnak for assignment.

LHP – Cole Irvin

Irvin is in his sixth big league season as he’s made 130 appearances with 93 of those coming as starts going 28-39 with a 4.49 ERA, a 4.41 FIP, a 1.30 WHIP, a 1.3 HR/9, a 2.1 BB/9, and a 6.6 K/9 in 589.1 innings. This season he’s made 25 appearances with 16 of those coming as starts going 6-5 with a 4.86 ERA, a 4.65 FIP, a 1.41 WHIP, a 1.4 HR/9, a 2.1 BB/9, and a 6.4 K/9 in 107.1 innings. He’s also appeared at Triple-A Norfolk for the Orioles making two starts going 0-1 with a 4.05 ERA, a 1.65 WHIP, a 0.0 HR/9, an 8.1 BB/9, and a 6.8 K/9 in 6.2 innings. He’s made his last two appearances as a reliever posting a 6.75 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, and five strikeouts in four innings.

RHP – Randy Dobnak

Dobnak this season has appeared in four games posting a 5.87 ERA, a 3.30 FIP, a 1.83 WHIP, a 0.0 HR/9, a 5.9 BB/9, and an 8.2 K/9 in 7.2 innings. In his four-year big league career he’s made 37 appearances with 21 of those coming as starts he is 9-12 with a 5.00 ERA, a 4.36 FIP, a 1.40 WHIP, a 1.0 HR/9, a 2.4 BB/9, and a 5.7 K/9 in 133.1 innings. He’s also pitched at Triple-A St. Paul this season appearing in 27 games with 23 of those coming as starts going 12-7 with a 3.90 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, a 0.8 HR/9, a 4.1 BB/9, and an 8.9 K/9 in 129.1 innings.
