The Minnesota Twins start a three-game series against a division rival, the Kansas City Royals. The Twins enter the series 54-60, sitting 11 games back of first in the American League Central and 6.5 games back in the Wild Card. The Twins are 3-3 to start August, averaging 4.8 runs per game while allowing 4.2 runs per game. Ahead of tonight’s game, they placed catcher Christian Vázquez on the 10-day injured list retroactive to August 6th with a left shoulder infection. They recalled catcher Jhonny Pereda from Triple-A St. Paul.

Christian Vázquez

Vázquez is having a down year this season in 61 games; he’s hitting .174 with a .498 OPS. He has seven doubles, two home runs, 13 RBI, 12 runs scored, and 16 walks. This is his third season with Minnesota. Since joining them, he’s played in 256 games, hitting .212 with a .567 OPS. He has 30 doubles, 15 home runs, 72 RBI, 75 runs scored, four stolen bases, and 52 walks.

Jhonny Pereda

Pereda, this season at St. Paul, appeared in six games, hitting .333 with a 1.107 OPS. He has two doubles, a triple, a home run, three RBI, seven runs scored, and four walks. The Twins selected him off waivers from the Athletics. In 19 games, he hit .175 with a .508 OPS. He had two doubles, three RBI, three runs scored, and six walks. In 27 games with the A’s Triple-A affiliate, he hit .319 with a .840 OPS. He had five doubles, two home runs, 15 RBI, 15 runs scored, and 13 walks.
