The Minnesota Twins start a three-game series against a division rival, the Kansas City Royals. The Twins enter the series 54-60, sitting 11 games back of first in the American League Central and 6.5 games back in the Wild Card. The Twins are 3-3 to start August, averaging 4.8 runs per game while allowing 4.2 runs per game. Ahead of tonight’s game, they placed catcher Christian Vázquez on the 10-day injured list retroactive to August 6th with a left shoulder infection. They recalled catcher Jhonny Pereda from Triple-A St. Paul.

Jhonny Pereda

Pereda, this season at St. Paul, appeared in six games, hitting .333 with a 1.107 OPS. He has two doubles, a triple, a home run, three RBI, seven runs scored, and four walks. The Twins selected him off waivers from the Athletics. In 19 games, he hit .175 with a .508 OPS. He had two doubles, three RBI, three runs scored, and six walks. In 27 games with the A’s Triple-A affiliate, he hit .319 with a .840 OPS. He had five doubles, two home runs, 15 RBI, 15 runs scored, and 13 walks.
