Drew Smith
The Minnesota Twins have signed Drew Smith, a right-handed pitcher, to a minor league contract today. This signing occurred before their game with the Orioles. Smith has a career 12-13 record with a 3.48 ERA, five saves, and a career 1.28 WHIP. Smith did not pitch at all last season. He tore his UCL in his right elbow during the 2024 season with the New York Mets. Smith was drafted by the Detroit Tigers 99th overall in the 2015 MLB Draft out of Dallas Bapist College.
Drew Smith has spent the last eight seasons in the Mets organization. He last pitched in a Major League game in the 2024 season for New York. Drew Smith had a 1-1 record with a 3.06 ERA in 19 games pitched. He had six holds, two saves, 23 strikeouts, and a 1.53 WHIP in 17 and two-thirds innings pitched.
Smith was signed by the Nationals this offseason. He pitched in six games for them in spring training. He did not give up a run in five and one-third innings of work. Washington sent him to the Rochester Red Wings. They released Smith on March 21st. This left him free for the taking. Smith will report to the St. Paul Saints to start his tenure with the Minnesota Twins organization.
