The Miami Marlins are currently without a General Manager as Kim Ng decided to step down from the organization. The World Series could end tonight, meaning that five days from the conclusion, free agency could open, but things in baseball on that front usually happen slowly, unlike other sports, so there isn’t a rush for the Marlins right now. Despite not having a GM, they were still active today as they decided to outright outfielder Jonathan Davis, LHP Enmanuel De Jesus, and RHP Jeff Lindgren off their 40-man roster. Davis and Lindgren can opt to be free agents instead of heading to Triple-A. De Jesus is likely to end up being a minor-league free agent.
Roster Moves By The Numbers
Jonathan Davis
The Marlins acquired Davis on May 22nd in a trade with the Detroit Tigers. Since the trade he only played with the Marlins, appearing in 34 games, and he slashed .244/.307/.378 with a .685 OPS; he had four doubles, one triple, two home runs, ten RBI, 22 runs scored, one stolen base, and seven walks. Davis was placed on the 60-day injured list after suffering an injury on a dive on a ball in center field that would result in him missing the remainder of the 2023 season.
Enmanuel De Jesus
De Jesus got his start in the Boston Red Sox organization, but in 2023, he finally made his big league debut. He spent time in Single-A and Triple-A, making 19 appearances, with 18 being starts going 5-5 with a 4.70 ERA, a 1.65 WHIP, a 0.9 HR/9, a 5.1 BB/9, and a 6.8 K/9. With the Marlins, he appeared in two games, going 0-0 with an 11.37 ERA, a 4.99 FIP, a 2.05 WHIP, a 0.0 HR/9, a 5.7 BB/9, and a 7.1 K/9.
Jeff Lindgren
Lindgren has spent the first four years of his career in the minors before making his big league debut this season. He spent most of the season in Triple-A, appearing in 22 games with 17 being starts, going 6-6 with a 4.88 ERA, a 1.38 WHIP, a 1.6 HR/9, a 4.9 BB/9, and a 6.1 K/9. He appeared in three games with the Marlins, going 0-0 with a 5.14 ERA, a 4.68 FIP, a 1.14 WHIP, a 0.0 HR/9, a 5.1 BB/9, and a 1.3 K/9.
