Marlins News & Notes
Eury Perez
Perez got the start today for the Marlins and he left with an injury in the first inning which sounds like it was a finger/nail issue. Perez only has a few more starts before the season begins and the Marlins need their young phenom right-hander ready to roll for Opening Day with the other issues they are currently experiencing in the rotation. So far this spring Perez has made four starts going 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, and 11 strikeouts in eight innings; before leaving today’s game he started with a strikeout before walking back-to-back hitters.
Sixto Sanchez
Sanchez appeared in today’s game and again he pitched well going two innings, he didn’t give up a run or a hit; he walked one and struck out one. This spring he has appeared in three games with a 0.00 ERA, a 0.75 WHIP, and three strikeouts in four innings.
Edward Cabrera
The Marlins got some good news on their right-handed pitcher who was diagnosed with a right should impingement, but he is expected to resume throwing soon which is a good sign for the Marlins. This spring has appeared in two games with one being a start, he was supposed to start on Sunday against the Cardinals but left that game during warm-up pitches with this current issue. He has a 0.00 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP, and five strikeouts in five innings.
Luis Arraez
Arraez is red hot this spring and seems ready for Opening Day to get here. In ten games he is hitting .357 with a .821 OPS; he has three doubles, one RBI, and four runs scored.
Nick Gordon
Gordon was acquired by the Marlins from the Minnesota Twins in February. This spring he’s played in ten games and is hitting .308 with a .679 OPS; he has one double, three RBI, one run scored, one walk, and four stolen bases.
Tim Anderson
Anderson who will be the Marlins starting shortstop and is looking to have a much better season than he had last year has played in eight games for his new team hitting .182 with a .500 OPS. Over the last three games he is starting to find his swing, it appears as he has gone 2-9 with a home run, an RBI, and two runs scored. Anderson may benefit from being around some like Arraez who won the batting title for the National League in 2023.
