Miami Marlins News & Notes 3/10

The Miami Marlins today had a split-squad day with one-half of the team facing the Houston Astros and they won 3-0. The other half took on the St. Louis Cardinals and they lost 12-8. Tomorrow they will face the New York Mets, they haven’t announced a starter yet for that game.

Marlins News & Notes

Edward Cabrera

Cabrera was set to face the St. Louis Cardinals to make his third start of the but during his warm-ups, he was removed due to an injury which is tough news for a rotation that won’t have Sandy Alcantara this season and are dealing with an injury to Braxton Garrett. Cabrera this spring has made two starts going 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP, and five strikeouts in five innings of work.

Eury Perez

Perez is the Marlins next young phenom arm and this spring he has made three starts going 1-1 with a 3.52 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, and ten strikeouts in 7.2 innings. His last start came on Friday against the Cardinals when he went 3.2 innings giving up two runs on four hits; he didn’t issue a walk and struck out five.

Sixto Sanchez

Sanchez has appeared twice this spring both relief outings posting a 0.00 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, and two strikeouts in two innings. It’ll be interesting how he is used in 2024 by the Marlins

J.D. Martinez

Martinez has as of late been reportedly linked to the Marlins even as much so as reports say he is discussing a contract. Right now their current designated hitter is Avisail Garcia. Last season Martinez with the Dodgers hit .271 with an .893 OPS; he had 27 doubles, 33 home runs, 103 RBI, and 61 runs scored. He would be a solid bat to apply to the order with the addition of Tim Anderson who looks to revive his career with a chance of scenery.
