Miami Marlins Future Is Bright Following 2024 Trade Deadline

The 2024 trade deadline has come and gone and the Miami Marlins despite selling came out with an absolute haul as their future is very bright. The first trade started the deadline as they sent LHP A.J. Puk to the Arizona Diamondbacks for infielder Deyvison De Los Santos and outfielder Andrew Pintar. On Saturday they sent infielder/outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. to the New York Yankees for catcher Agustin Ramirez, shortstop Jared Serna, and infielder Abraham Ramirez. Yesterday they moved LHP Trevor Rogers to the Baltimore Orioles for infielder Connor Norby and outfielder Kyle Stowers, then Josh Bell to Arizona for cash. Right before the deadline they moved RHP J.T. Chargois for RHP Will Schomberg with the Seattle Mariners, then LHP Tanner Scott as well as RHP Bryan Hoeing from the San Diego Padres for LHP Robby Snelling, infielder Graham Pauley, RHP Adam Mazur, and infielder Jay Beshears. Finally, they moved outfielder Bryan De La Cruz to the Pittsburgh Pirates for RHP Jun-Seok Shim and infielder Garret Forrester.

The one thing the Marlins were missing in their system was prospects that could hit, with the Marlins already having a pitching factory that once healthy in 2025 will feature Sandy Alcantara, Eury Perez, Jesus Luzardo, Max Meyer, Noble Meyer, and Thomas White, they needed some hitting prospects. Following the trade deadline they got De Los Santos from Arizona, Ramirez from the Yankees, Norby and Stowers from the Orioles who were blocked by other talent in Baltimore, as well as Pauley from the Padres, and Forrester from the Pirates; that’s five decent bats that could make an impact by 2026. They also got a pitching prospect to add to their list of arms in the Top 100 by ITD in Robby Snelling who will report to Double-A Pensacola, this season he’s had a rough time going 2-8 in 16 starts with a 6.01 ERA, a 1.68 WHIP, and 67 strikeouts in 73.1 innings; the stuff is there and there’s no doubt the Marlins will tap into his full potential.

Ramirez will head to Triple-A Jacksonville, this season with the Yankees system he was hitting .271 with a .865 OPS, he has a chance to be in Miami before the end of 2024. Norby is heading to Triple-A but he was with the Orioles before the trade, this season in the minors he is hitting .297 with a .908 OPS. Stowers will be in Miami, he was hitting .306 with a .797 OPS with the Orioles. Pauley will head to Double-A, in the minors with San Diego, he was hitting .228 with a .732 OPS. Forrester will head to Single-A, this season he is hitting .250 with a .743 OPS. Serna will head to Double-A Pensacola, this season he’s hitting .253 with a .785 OPS. De Los Santos is at Triple-A in three games he is 5-12 with two home runs, four RBI, and three runs scored. Pintar is at Double-A and in his one game he went 1-5. Ramirez this season was hitting .348 with a .960 OPS. Finally, Beshears is heading to High-A, this season he’s hitting .261 with a .750 OPS.

As for the rest of the pitchers acquired, Schomberg is at High-A, he is 7-2 in 19 starts with a 2.83 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and 116 strikeouts in 92.1 innings. Mazur is at Triple-A, he is 4-4 with a 4.39 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and 54 strikeouts in 55.1 innings for the Padres Triple-A team. Shim is out for the season.

The Marlins will have a window likely in the 2026 season but the real season to watch out for them is 2027 when all these prospects could click and they may get even wealthier if they struggle in 2025 meaning they could be building something that competes not just in the National League but in the whole National League altogether.
