Marcelo Mayer Leaves Game Against Phillies

The Boston Red Sox lead the Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 in the seventh inning, and the Red Sox suffered a loss as Marcelo Mayer left the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Mayer left the game with right wrist discomfort. He had 0-1 with a run scored, a walk, and a strikeout in tonight’s game. Mayer, this season in his rookie year, is hitting .228 with a .674 OPS. He has eight doubles, a triple, four home runs, ten RBI, 20 runs scored, and eight walks. In 43 games in the minors this season, he hit .271 with a .818 OPS. He had five doubles, a triple, nine home runs, 43 RBI, 31 runs scored, two stolen bases, and 20 walks.

The Red Sox drafted Mayer fourth overall in the 2021 MLB Draft. Mayer, in 315 career minor league games in the Red Sox system, is hitting .273 with a .826 OPS. He has 86 doubles, six triples, 46 home runs, 205 RBI, 220 runs scored, 48 stolen bases, and 165 walks. He entered this season as a top ten prospect and got the callup after Alex Bregman got hurt and played well enough to stick around.
