Houston Astros Roster Moves 5/10

Houston Astros Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Houston Astros enter okay this Friday, May 10th, with a 13-24 record. They are coming off a series with the New York Yankees, in which they dropped two of three. They will take on the Detroit Tigers now in a three-game series. The season has yet to get off to the start the Astros would’ve hoped for, but we are just getting into May, and hopefully, things can turn around for the Astros. Today, before the game, they announced four roster moves.

CF – Corey Julks

The Astros designated Corey Julks for assignment today. He has played in 31 games for the Sugarland Space Cowboys this year in Triple-A. He has scored 26 runs, had 33 hits, seven doubles, five home runs, 15 RBIs, 19 walks, 27 strikeouts, and stole six bases. He slashed .266/.358/.444 with a .802 OPS in Triple-A.

SS – Grae Kessinger

The Astros activated Grae today from the 10-day injured list. He has only played in eight games so far this year for the Astros. He is coming back from the injured list due to right shoulder discomfort. He has one run scored and four strikeouts in his eight games played.

RHP – Alex Speas

The Astros claimed Speas off waivers from the Oakland Athletics today. Speas started the year with the White Sox in Triple-A with the Charlotte Knights before being designated for assignment and claimed by the Oakland Athletics. The A’s sent him to Las Vegas Aviators, their Triple-A affiliate. He has pitched between both Triple-A clubs in 11 games with two wins and no losses. He has a 12.08 ERA and a 2.13 WHIP combined. He has pitched in 12.2 innings, allowing 18 hits, 17 runs scored, nine walks, and struck out 17.

SS – Jacob Amaya

The Astros optioned Amaya to the Sugar Land Space Cowboys today. During his call-up, he appeared in one game, getting one at-bat, and had no other statistics for the club.

Wrap Up:

I hate to say a series is a big win, but this series with the Tigers is exactly that. At some point, the Astros need to start stringing together series wins. Of the moves mentioned above, the Julks move is interesting, considering the time he spent with the big league club last year. The rest are depth pieces that, when called upon, can provide a spark for the Astros!
