Five Reds Prospects Named to the MLB Top 100 Prospects

This past weekend Major League Baseball released its updated list of the Top 100 Prospects, and the Cincinnati Reds had five names make the list. SS/3B Noelvi Marte came in at 16th, SS Edwin Arroyo is 24th, 3B Cam Collier is 55th, LHP Andrew Abbott is 57th, and 1B/3B Christian Encarnacion-Strand is 88th.

Reds Prospects 2023 Season by the Numbers

SS/3B – Noelvi Marte

Marte has played with three teams this season the Reds rookie ball affiliate in the ACL, the Reds AA affiliate, the Chattanooga Lookouts, and the AAA affiliate, the Louisville Bats. Between the three teams combined, he has played in 64 games scoring 43 runs, hitting 13 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 31 RBI, and 13 stolen bases. He has a slash line of .282/.346/.452 and an OPS of .799. He is playing with the Reds Bats and has played in 14 games with a slash line of .298/.314/.447 and an OPS of .761. He scored five runs, three doubles, two triples, six RBI, and three stolen bases.

SS – Edwin Arroyo

This season, Arroyo has played with the Reds High-A affiliate, the Dayton Dragons. With the Dragons, he has played in 73 games and has a slash line of .231/.303/.381 and .684 OPS. He has 42 runs scored, 15 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 31 RBI, and 14 stolen bases.

3B – Cam Collier

Collier, like Arroyo, has been with the Dragons all season. He has played in 66 games scoring 17 runs, 12 doubles, one triple, four home runs, 31 RBI, and three stolen bases. He has a slash line of .212/.317/.325 and an OPS of .642.

LHP – Andrew Abbott

Abbott is currently with the Reds but has not graduated from the Prospect list. He started the year with the AA affiliate, the Chattanooga Lookouts, and then was promoted to AAA with the Louisville Bats; he combined started in ten games, going 4-0 with a 2.50 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 54 innings of work. He had a WHIP of 0.92, a 2.8 BB/9, and a 15.0 K/9. With the Reds this season, he has made eight starts going 4-2 with a 2.45 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 47.2 innings of work. He has a 4.33 FIP, a 1.00 WHIP, a 3.0 BB/9, and a 9.6 K/9.

1B/3B – Christian Encarnacion-Strand

Encarnacion-Strand was just called up to the Reds after spending most of the season with the AAA affiliate, the Louisville Bats. In 67 games with Louisville, Encarnacion-Strand posted a slash line of .331/.405/.637 and a 1.042 OPS. He scored 65 runs, had 21 doubles, two triples, 20 home runs, 62 RBI, and two stolen bases. Last night in his major league debut, he went 0-2 with a flyout and a ground out; that game is currently suspended against the Giants at 2-2 with Encarnacion-Strand set to lead off the Bottom of the 8th for the Reds.
