The 2024 Futures Game Roster has been announced. The game will take place on Saturday, July 13th at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas at 4:10 PM EST. The eight prospects will also feature six players from ITD’s Top 100. The eight prospects are Brock Selvidge and Spencer Jones from the New York Yankees Double-A affiliate the Somerset Patriots, Samuel Basallo from the Baltimore Orioles Double-A affiliate the Bowie Baysox, Marcelo Mayer, and Kyle Teel from the Boston Red Sox Double-A affiliate the Portland Sea Dogs, Hao-Yu Lee from the Detroit Tigers Double-A affiliate the Erie SeaWolves (recently promoted to Triple-A Toledo), Bubba Chandler from the Pittsburgh Pirates Double-A affiliate the Altoona Curve, and Brandon Sproat from the New York Mets Double-A affiliate the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Jones, Basallo, Mayer, Teel, Chandler, and Sproat are in the Top 100. Roman Anthony and Brady House both also in the Top 100 will be there taking part in the Futures Skills Showcase.
LHP – Brock Selvidge – New York Yankees – Somerset Patriots
Selvidge is in his fourth season in the Yankees system after being drafted in the third round of the 2021 MLB Draft. He’s appeared in 53 games with 49 coming as starts he is 18-11 with a 3.51 ERAA, a 1.25 WHIP, and 274 strikeouts in 253.2 innings. This season at Somerset he’s made 15 starts going 7-5 (3rd most win in Eastern League) with a 3.95 ERA (14th in Eastern League), a 1.36 WHIP, and 80 strikeouts (T-8th in Eastern League) in 79.2 innings.
OF – Spencer Jones – New York Yankees – Somerset Patriots
Jones is ranked as the 68th overall prospect by ITD. He is in his third season with the Yankees system after being drafted 25th overall in the 2022 MLB Draft. In his tenure he’s played in 207 games hitting .271 with a .792 OPS; he has 48 doubles, six triples, 29 home runs, 123 RBI, 135 runs scored, 90 walks, and 73 stolen bases. This season he’s played in 65 games hitting .252 with a .752 OPS; he has 13 doubles, two triples, nine home runs (T-13th in Eastern League), 45 RBI (5th in Eastern League), 43 runs scored (T-8th in Eastern league), 30 walks (T-15th in Eastern League), and 18 stolen bases (T-4th in Eastern League).
C/1B – Samuel Basallo – Baltimore Orioles – Bowie Baysox
Basallo is ranked as the 12th overall prospect by ITD. He is in his third season in the Orioles system playing in 225 games hitting .295 with a .871 OPS; he has 44 doubles, seven triples, 37 home runs, 152 RBI, 136 runs scored, 99 walks, and 20 stolen bases. This season in 68 games he is hitting .278 (T-13th in Eastern League) with a .794 OPS (14th in Eastern League); he has 13 doubles, 11 home runs (T-7th in Eastern League), 34 RBI, 39 runs scored (16th in Eastern League), 23 walks, and seven stolen bases.
SS – Marcelo Mayer – Boston Red Sox – Portland Sea Dogs
Mayer is the eighth-ranked prospect by ITD for June. Mayer is in his fourth season in the Red Sox system after he was drafted fourth overall in the 2021 MLB Draft. To this point he’s played in 263 games hitting .362 with a .827 OPS; he has 78 doubles, five triples, 36 home runs, 160 RBI, 183 runs scored, 46 stolen bases, and 142 walks. This season at Double-A Portland in 68 games he is hitting .307 (1st in Eastern League) with a .850 OPS (6th in Eastern League); he has 25 doubles (1st in Eastern League), seven home runs, 36 RBI, 54 runs scored (1st in Eastern League), 13 stolen bases, and 27 walks.
C – Kyle Teel – Boston Red Sox – Portland Sea Dogs
Teel is the 28th-ranked prospect by ITD for June. Teel is in his second season in the Red Sox farm system after the Red Sox selected him 14th overall in last season’s MLB draft. In his time in the Red Sox system, he’s wasted no time making the jump playing in 86 games across four levels hitting .319 with a .890 OPS; he has 20 doubles, ten home runs, 70 RBI, 66 runs scored, eight stolen bases, and 52 walks. This season at Double-A Portland, he’s played in 60 games hitting .302 (3rd in Eastern League) with a .854 OPS (5th in Eastern League); he has 14 doubles, eight home runs, 48 RBI (4th in Eastern League), 51 runs scored (2nd in Eastern League), five stolen bases, and 31 walks.
2B – Hao-Yu Lee – Detroit Tigers – Erie SeaWolves
Lee is in his second season in the Tigers system having spent time with the Philadelphia Phillies before being acquired by Detroit. In his minor league career, he’s played in 228 games hitting .286 with a .828 OPS; he has 45 doubles, ten triples, 27 home runs, 134 RBI, 142 runs scored, 109 walks, and 42 stolen bases. This season he’s played in 65 games hitting .295 (4th in Eastern League) with a .877 OPS (3rd in Eastern League); he has 14 doubles (T-14th in Eastern League), four triples (T-1st in Eastern League), 11 home runs (T-7th in Eastern League), 44 RBI (6th in Eastern League), 47 runs scored (3rd in Eastern League), 30 walks, and 12 stolen bases.
RHP – Bubba Chandler – Pittsburgh Pirates – Altoona Curve
Chandler is ranked the 64th overall prospect by ITD. Chandler is in his third season in the Pirates system after being drafted by the Pirates in the third round of the 2021 MLB Draft. He’s appeared in 53 games with 48 coming as starts going 15-10 with a 4.06 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP, and 256 strikeouts in 206.1 innings. This season he’s appeared in 14 games with 12 of them coming as starts going 4-5 with a 4.17 ERA (21st in Eastern League), a 1.15 WHIP (T-5th in Eastern League), and 68 strikeouts (T-16th in Eastern League) in 54 innings.
RHP – Brandon Sproat – New York Mets – Binghamton Rumble Ponies
Sproat is ranked the 99th overall prospect by ITD. He is in his first season in the Mets system after they drafted him in the second round of the 2023 MLB Draft. He’s appeared in 13 games with 12 of those coming as starts going 5-1 with a 1.61 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP, and 76 strikeouts in 67 innings. At Binghamton, he’s made seven starts going 3-0 with a 1.94 ERA, a 0.89 WHIP, and 43 strikeouts in 41.2 innings. He’s not qualified to make the Eastern League rankings but he would be second in ERA, and first in WHIP.
