Detroit Tigers Take Series Over Cubs in Possible World Series Preview at Comerica Park

Baseball fans got a potential glimpse into the 2025 World Series this past weekend, as the Detroit Tigers hosted the Chicago Cubs in a thrilling three-game set at Comerica Park. The Tigers came out on top, taking the series 2-1, and both teams scored eight runs in the series. The Tigers made a strong statement as they continue to climb the American League standings.

Game 1: Detroit Tigers Take Opener

The opener saw Detroit get on the board first in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a Gleyber Torres RBI single to make it 1-0 Detroit. The Cubs evened things up in the sixth with an RBI double by Kyle Tucker. The Tigers took the lead again in the bottom of the sixth behind a solo home run by Spencer Torkelson Jahmai Jones added some insurance as he was called up earlier in the day to make it 3-1. Ben Brown went seven innings for the Cubs giving up two runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out seven. Tarik Skubal went 7.2 innings giving up one run on eight hits. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out six.

Game 2: Chicago Cubs Even the Series

The Cubs bounced back in Game 2 with a dominant performance. Seiya Suzuki led the way with two home runs both solo shots. Michael Busch hit a two-run home run, and Pete Crow-Armstrong and Matt Shaw also added solo shots. Jake Rogers drove home the lone Tigers run on a force out. Jameson Taillon went seven innings giving up one run on three hits. He walked one and struck out five. The Tigers had an opener before Keider Montero went 5.2 innings, giving up four runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out four.

Game 3: Detroit Tigers Seal the Series with Late Surge

Sunday’s rubber match was all Tigers. Spencer Torkelson doubled in the bottom of the first driving in two runs to make it 2-0 Tigers. In the bottom of the fifth Riley Greene singled home two runs to make it 4-0 and that would be all she wrote. Jack Flaherty went six shutout innings giving up two hits. He walked three and struck out nine. Cade Horton got the ball for the Cubs giving up four runs in five innings on seven hits. He walked two and struck out six.

Playoff Implications Loom Large

While it’s still early in the season, this Tigers vs. Cubs series had the intensity and atmosphere of October baseball. With both teams building momentum and rosters stacked with young talent and veteran leadership, fans can’t help but speculate about a potential World Series clash between these historic franchises.
