Detroit Tigers Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Detroit Tigers wrap up their series with the Atlanta Braves today as they look to avoid being swept. The Tigers once had complete control of the American League Central, but now their lead is down to just one game as the Cleveland Guardians have closed in. The Tigers after today will start a critical three-game series against the Guardians in Cleveland. Today they designated right-handed pitcher Charlie Morton for assignment. To take his spot they have recalled right-handed pitcher Tanner Rainey from Triple-A Toledo.

Charlie Morton

Morton since the Tigers acquired him has not pitched well. In nine starts he went 2-3 with a 7.09 ERA, a 1.60 WHIP, and 47 strikeouts in 39.1 innings. Before he was acquired by Detroit he made 23 appearances for Baltimore with 17 of those coming as starts. He went 7-8 with a 5.42 ERA, a 1.56 WHIP, and 101 strikeouts in 101.1 innings.

Tanner Rainey 

Rainey appeared in 11 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates this season going 0-1 with a 10.57 ERA, a 1.70 WHIP, and nine strikeouts in 7.2 innings. He has made 19 appearances at Triple-A Toledo with two of those coming as starts. Rainey went 1-0 with a 2.66 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP, and 33 strikeouts in 23.2 innings.
