Detroit Tigers Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Detroit Tigers started their three-game series against the Miami Marlins last night with a 6-5 win thanks to a Spencer Torkelson two-run home run in the eighth inning to give the Tigers the lead. In the second inning, they jumped out to a three-run lead but in the fifth, the Marlins tied it up at 3-3, then took a 5-3 lead in the eighth inning with a two-run home run from Otto Lopez. Before the Torkelson home run Andy Ibanez drove home Wenceel Perez with a single to make it 5-4 then Torkelson made it 6-5 and Jason Foley closed the door for his tenth save of the season. Matt Manning got the start yesterday for Kenta Maeda who is on the 15-day injured list with an illness and Manning went 5.2 innings giving up three runs on nine hits; he walked one and struck out five. Before the game last night, they also called up RHP Beau Brieske while placing RHP Shelby Miller on the 15-day injured list with ulnar nerve inflammation. Before today’s game, they activated third baseman Gio Urshela off of the 10-day injured list with a hamstring strain, and with Urshela back to counter the move they are sending outfielder Akil Baddoo back to Triple-A Toledo.

Tigers Moves By The Numbers

RHP – Beau Brieske

Brieske has spent parts of two seasons with the Tigers in 2022 he started 15 games going 3-6 with a 4.19 ERA, a 4.97 FIP, a 1.20 WHIP, and 54 strikeouts in 81.2 innings. Last season, he appeared in 25 games with one of those coming as a start going 2-3 with a 3.60 ERA, a 4.00 FIP, a 1.37 WHIP, and 31 strikeouts in 35 innings. This season with Triple-A Toledo he’s appeared in 13 games going 1-0 with a 2.95 ERA, a 1.40 WHIP, and 22 strikeouts in 21.1 innings.

RHP – Shelby Miller

Miller signed a one-year deal worth $3.25 million with a team option for 2025 on December 22, 2023. He has appeared in 15 games going 3-4 this season with a 4.41 ERA, a 4.36 FIP, a 1.04 WHIP, and 15 strikeouts in 16.1 innings.

3B – Gio Urshela

Urshela signed a one-year $1.5 million contract with the Tigers on February 22nd and before the injury he had played in 18 games with a slash line of .298/.310/.333 with a .644 OPS; he had two doubles, six RBI, four runs scored, and one walk. He has been rehabbing with Toledo playing in three games he hit .625 with a 1.292 OPS; he had one RBI, two runs scored, and one walk.

OF – Akil Baddoo

Baddoo was called up on Sunday and he has played in one game which was on Sunday, and it was in a pinch-hit role and he got a hit going 1-1 with a triple, and a run scored. In Triple-A in 30 games he slashed .257/.366/.478 with a .844 OPS; he had five doubles, four triples, four home runs, 16 RBI, 21 runs scored, four stolen bases, and 19 walks.
