Detroit Tigers Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Detroit Tigers last night had a split-squad game with one half of the roster taking on the New York Yankees a game in which they won 11-5 while the other half played the Toronto Blue Jays and they lost 5-4. The Tigers play tonight at 6:05 PM EST against the Baltimore Orioles and will send Casey Mize to the mound to make his third appearance and his second start of the spring, he is 1-0 with a 4.91 ERA, a 1.64 WHIP and three strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Today the Detroit Tigers trimmed down their Spring Training roster to 54 players.

Tigers Roster Moves By The Numbers

Brendan White

White last season pitched at Triple-A Toledo and with the Tigers. In Triple-A he appeared in 29 games going 3-2 with a 4.14 ERA, a 1.51 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts in 37 innings. With Detroit he made 33 appearances with two of those coming as starts he went 2-3 with a 5.09 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and 44 strikeouts in 40.2 innings.

Garrett Hill

Hill last season played for Single-A Lakeland and Triple-A Toledo as well as with the Tigers. In the minors he made 28 appearances with six of those coming as starts he went 3-2 with a 5.79 ERA, a 1.83 WHIP, and 70 strikeouts in 51.1 innings. With the Tigers he made nine appearances going 0-0 with a 9.19 ERA, a 2.10 WHIP, and 14 strikeouts in 15.2 innings.

Jackson Jobe

Jobe is the Tigers third-ranked prospect by ITD and he is coming back from an injury before that he pitched for four teams in the Tigers system, their rookie league team, Single-A Lakeland, High-A West Michigan, and Double-A Erie he made 16 starts going 2-4 with a 2.81 ERA, a 0.98 WHIP, and 84 strikeouts in 64 innings.

Ty Madden

Madden is the Tigers sixth-ranked prospect by ITD and this spring he has made two starts going 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA, a 1.64 WHIP, and five strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Last season he pitched for Double-A Erie making 26 appearances with 25 of those coming as starts going 3-4 with a 3.43 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP, and 146 strikeouts in 118 innings

Brant Hurter

Hurter has appeared in three games posting a 0.00 ERA, a 0.80 WHIP, and six strikeouts in five innings. Last season he pitched at Double-A Erie making 26 starts going 6-7 with a 3.28 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP, and 133 strikeouts in 118 innings.

Eliezer Alfonzo

Alfonzo this spring has played in five games, and he hit .250 with a .583 OPS; he had one RBI, one run scored, and one walk. Last season he played at High-A West Michigan and Double-A Erie playing 96 games and he hit .265 with a .704 OPS; he had 14 doubles, nine home runs, 44 RBI, 51 runs scored, one stolen base, and 29 walks.
