Detroit Tigers Prospect Named Player of the Month

The Detroit Tigers minor league affiliates are wrapping up their season with Double-A Erie and Single-A Lakeland heading into the playoffs, Erie will finish their regular season this week and Lakeland won game one of their series last night 2-1 with game two tomorrow night and the Flying Tigers with a win can advance to the Championship series, if they lose they will play a decisive game three on Friday night. In August the four affiliates combined to go 60-49 and outscored their opponents 524-453. Triple-A Toledo went 14-13 and outscored their opponents 128-125. Erie went 13-13 with outscored their opponent 139-122. High-A West Michigan went 15-12 and dominated their opponents outscoring them 136-99. Finally, Lakeland went 16-11 and outscored their opponents 121-107. With the great months, one player stood out and that was shortstop Gage Workman who took home Hitter of the Month honors for the Eastern League as he hit .308 with a .945 OPS; he had five doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 22 RBI, 17 runs scored, nine walks, and two stolen bases.

Workman was drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 MLB by the Tigers out of Arizona State. In 2021 he made his debut in the system playing for Lakeland and West Michigan, he played in 118 games hitting .246 with a .760 OPS; he had 37 doubles, six triples, 12 home runs, 58 RBI, 68 runs scored, 30 stolen bases, and 34 walks. In 2022 he played for Erie playing in 128 games hitting .225 with a .691 OPS; he had 30 doubles, nine triples, 14 home runs, 68 RBI, 61 runs scored, 30 stolen bases, and 34 walks. In 2023 he played for West Michigan and Erie playing in 100 games hitting .239 with a .744 OPS; he had 15 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs, 48 RBI, 73 runs scored, 19 stolen bases, and 48 walks. This season he’s played in 122 games at Erie hitting .278 with a .828 OPS; he had 28 doubles, five triples, 17 home runs, 86 RBI, 80 runs scored, 29 stolen bases, and 60 walks.
