Detroit Tigers Promote Three of Their Top Four Prospects

The Detroit Tigers High-A affiliate, the West Michigan Whitecaps, are 10-5 at the start of the second half. They are 54-26 this season and have already clinched a playoff spot in the Midwest League Playoffs. Today, with the minor league teams off tomorrow, the Detroit Tigers promoted three of their top four prospects. They promoted their top prospect, infielder Kevin McGonigle ranked seventh overall in baseball—and outfielder Max Clark, their second-ranked and 12th overall prospect, to Double-A Erie. Additionally, the team promoted first baseman/catcher Josue Briceno, their fourth-ranked and 58th overall prospect, to Erie. The Seawolves this season is 52-29 and clinched a playoff spot in the first round of the Eastern League Playoffs. The Seawolves have won back-to-back Championships.

Kevin McGonigle

McGonigle this season with the Whitecaps in 36 games hit .372 with a 1.110 OPS. He had 19 doubles, seven home runs, 39 RBI, 37 runs scored, 23 walks, and three stolen bases. He has hit .325 with a .923 OPS since the team drafted him three seasons ago. McGonigle has 41 doubles, four triples, and 13 home runs. 89 RBI, 105 runs scored, 90 walks, and 33 stolen bases.

Max Clark

Clark this season in High-A 68 games hit .285 with an .857 OPS. He has 12 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 47 RBI, 49 runs scored, 65 walks, and 12 stolen bases. In 198 games for the Tigers organization, he’s hit .275 with a .812 OPS. He has 38 doubles, nine triples, 18 home runs, 141 RBI, 142 runs scored, 147 walks, and 46 stolen bases.

Josue Briceno

Briceno, in 55 games this season is hitting .296 with a 1.024 OPS. He has 13 doubles, a triple, 15 home runs, 57 RBI, 40 runs scored, 41 walks, and a stolen bases. In 194 minor league games, he’s hit .286 with a .867 OPS. He has 45 doubles, five triples, 28 home runs, 133 RBI, 124 runs scored, 106 walks, and six stolen bases.
