The Detroit Tigers finished off a series sweep of the Yankees, improving to 38-49. They’re eight games back of the White Sox for the American League Central. They’re six games back for the final spot in the American League wild card standings.

Kevin McGonigle got the scoring started in the third with a solo home run. In the sixth, Riley Greene drove home another run with a sacrifice fly. The Yankees got a solo home run in the ninth to make it a one-run game; they then tied it, scoring on a wild pitch. Neither team scored in the tenth. In the 11th, Spencer Torkelson drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 3-2. Zach McKinstry then singled home two, and the third run scored on a throwing error, allowing the final runner to score, making it 6-2 and leading to a Tigers win

Troy Melton went 6.1 scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out seven. Drew Sommers went 0.2 innings, striking out one. Drew Anderson went two innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out one. Keider Montero got the tenth and 11th innings.

Keider Montero was the key piece to the Tigers’ win. He didn’t allow a base-runner in the win, and he struck out three to lead the Tigers to the win.
