Detroit Tigers Linked to Two Relievers

The Detroit Tigers entered the All-Star break with the best record in baseball at 59-38. They lead the Los Angeles Dodgers by one game for the best record and are 2.5 games ahead of the Houston Astros for the best record in the American League. Now that it’s the All-Star break, the hot stove starts cooking. The trade deadline is just 16 days away. MLB scheduled the trade deadline for July 31st at 6:00 PM EST. The Tigers are looking to add pitching at the deadline, both starting pitching and relievers. They have now reportedly been looking into acquiring one of two relievers from a division rival. The Tigers have looked into Jhoan Durán and Griffin Jax from the Minnesota Twins.

Jhoan Durán

Durán this season in 44 games is 5-4 with 15 saves. He posts a 1.66 ERA, a 2.13 FIP, a 1.13 WHIP, and 49 strikeouts in 43.1 innings. He’s pitched in 218 career games, posting a 16-23 record with 73 saves. He posts a 2.41 ERA, a 2.71 FIP, a 1.09 WHIP, and 288 strikeouts in 227.2 innings.

Griffin Jax

Jax this season in 44 games is 1-4 with no saves. He posts a 3.92 ERA, a 1.87 FIP, a 1.21 WHIP, and 66 strikeouts in 41.1 innings. He’s appeared in 270 games during his career. Fourteen of those appearances came as starts. He has a 23-28 record with 15 saves. He posts a 3.98 ERA, a 3.57 FIP, a 1.13 WHIP, and 372 strikeouts in 332 innings.

The Tigers’ bullpen as a unit is 23-13.
