The Cincinnati Reds have a 25-25 record after the first fifty games of the season. They are four and a half games back in the NL Central behind the Cubs. The Reds will try to win the series finale today. They aim to secure a series win against the Pirates at 12:35 in Pittsburgh. Before today’s afternoon game, they announced two roster moves. They have activated one player from the injured list. He is being sent back to the bullpen. They have sent a struggling starter back to Louisville.

Ian Gibaut

The Reds have activated right-hand pitcher Ian Gibaut from the 15-day injured list today before their game with the Pirates. Gibaut has been on the injured list since April 26th with a right shoulder impingement. He has pitched in 12 games this season for the Reds with one loss and a 5.40 ERA. Gibaut has pitched 11.2 innings allowing seven earned runs, four walks, and struck out 11. Before his trip to the injured list, he allowed opponents a .261 batting average and a 1.37 WHIP.

Chase Petty

The Reds have optioned right-hand pitcher Chase Petty back to Triple-A today. Petty has started two games this year for the Reds. Petty took the loss in both his starts. He pitched 2.1 innings in his first outting and then made it through three in his last start against the Astros. Petty allowed 13 earned runs and 13 hits in his two starts. His control struggled in the second start with six walks against the Astros. He heads back to Triple-A after recording a 21.94 ERA and an 8/7 Walk/K ratio in his two starts.
