The Chicago Cubs have won three straight and look to keep the momentum going in game two of their series with the Reds today. Last night the Cubs came back from behind to beat the Reds 13-6. Today Colin Rea will face off against Andrew Abbott in game two. The Cubs sit atop the NL Central with a 31-20 record. Before game two of their series they have announced two roster moves. They have designated a veteran reliever for assignment, while selecting the contract of another from Iowa before the game. The Cubs continue to shuffle around their bullpen as they try to find the perfect mix of arms.

Julian Merryweather

The Chicago Cubs have designated the right-hand pitcher for assignment today. He has pitched in 21 games this year for the Cubs. He has one loss and a 5.79 ERA. Merryweather has recorded eight holds, 11 walks, and 18 strikeouts in 18 and two thirds innings. He allowed opponents a .303 batting average and a 1.82 which for the Cubs.

Brooks Kriske

The Chicago Cubs have selected the contract of right-hand pitcher Brooks Kriske from Triple-A Iowa. Kriske last pitched in the majors back in 2023 with the Kansas City Royals. He pitched in four games in 2023 for the Royals. In the four games he recorded a 4.05 ERA. This year in Iowa Kriske has pitched in 13 games and has recorded two wins and a 3.38 ERA. He has pitched 18 and two thirds innings this year for Iowa. He has walked eight and struck out 28 this year.
