The Boston Red Sox wrap up their series against the Athletics today. The Red Sox won the first two games of the series, outscoring the Athletics 13-0. They are now 5-3 in September, averaging 5.5 runs per game while allowing 4.8 runs per game. Ahead of today’s finale, Boston is calling up left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison from Triple-A Worcester. The Red Sox acquired Harrison in the trade that sent Rafael Devers to San Francisco. The corresponding move for Harrison is the Red Sox optioning left-handed reliever Chris Murphy to Triple-A Worcester.

Harrison made eight appearances, with four coming as starts, with the Giants going 1-1. He posted a 4.56 ERA, a 1.27 WHIP, and 25 strikeouts in 23.2 innings. In six starts for the Giants’ Triple-A affiliate, he went 1-0. Harrison posted a 3.46 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP, and 38 strikeouts in 26 innings. Since being acquired by the Red Sox, he’s made 12 starts at Triple-A Worcester, going 4-2. He posted a 3.75 ERA, a 1.59 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts in 50.1 innings.

Chris Murphy

Murphy is 17 games for the Red Sox, is 2-0 with a 2.81 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, and 21 strikeouts in 25.2 innings. In 18 games with five of those coming as starts between High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A, he is 1-0. Murphy posts a 2.93 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP, and 29 strikeouts in 27.2 innings.
