The Boston Red Sox kick off rivalry weekend tonight against the Atlanta Braves at Fenway Park. Tonight’s game will be a battle of aces as Garrett Crochet toes the rubber for Boston. Crochet will face Chris Sale, the reigning National League Cy Young for the Braves. Ahead of tonight’s game, the Red Sox selected right-handed pitcher Nick Burdi from Triple-A Worcester. To make room for Burdi, they optioned right-handed pitcher Cooper Criswell to Triple-A Worcester. They also transferred right-handed pitcher Kutter Crawford to the 60-day injured list.

Nick Burdi

Burdi in 13 games at Worcester is 3-0 with a 0.54 ERA, a 0.84 WHIP, and 25 strikeouts in 16.2 innings. Last season with the Yankees, he appeared in 12 games, going 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA, a 1.45 WHIP, and 12 strikeouts in 9.2 innings. He’s appeared in 31 career big league games, going 3-2 with a 6.48 ERA, a 1.29 WHIP, and 240 strikeouts in 169.2 innings.

Cooper Criswell

Criswell has appeared in three games for the Red Sox this season. He’s posting a 10.38 ERA, a 6.80 FIP, and a 2.54 WHIP; he hasn’t recorded a strikeout in 4.1 innings. In five appearances, four coming as starts at Worcester, going 2-1. He has a 1.99 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP, and 31 strikeouts in 22.2 innings. Criswell last season appeared in 26 games, with 18 of those coming as starts. He went 6-5 with a 4.08 ERA, a 4.15 FIP, a 1.35 WHIP, and 73 strikeouts in 99.1 innings. In his career, he’s appeared in 41 career games with 20 of those coming as starts. He is 7-7 with a 4.78 ERA, a 4.44 FIP, a 1.45 WHIP, and 104 strikeouts in 141.1 innings.

Kutter Crawford

Crawford is out dealing with a right patellar tendon injury. Last season, in 33 starts, he went 9-16 with a 4.36 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and 175 strikeouts in 183.2 innings.
