Red Sox Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Boston Red Sox have yet to make a big move or splash this offseason. The most significant move to this point was the trade of Luis Urias to the Seattle Mariners for an arm they could add to their bullpen in Isaiah Campbell. Today, according to his Instagram, they added another bullpen arm from the Mariners as they signed LHP Jorge Benetiz.

Jorge Benetiz By The Numbers

The Seattle Mariners drafted Benetiz in the ninth round of the 2017 MLB draft out of Leadership Christian Academy in Puerto Rico. He has pitched across four levels of their system, making it as high as Double-A. Over his career, he has made 151 appearances across those four levels, with 22 as starts going 13-16 with a 4.23 ERA, a 1.48 WHIP, a 0.4 BB/9, a 5.4 BB/9, and an 8.7 K/9. In 2023, Benetiz pitched for High-A and Double-A, making 45 appearances, going 2-5 with a 1.95 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, a 0.4 HR/9, a 6.1 BB/9, and an 11.4 K/9. With Double-A, he made 40 appearances, going 2-3 with a 2.14 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, a 0.5 HR/9, a 5.9 BB/9, and an 11.3 K/9. Right now, he is currently pitching in the Puerto Rican Winter League, and to this point, he has made four appearances for the Criollos de Caguas, going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA, a 0.91 WHIP, a 0.0 HR/9, a 3.5 BB/9, and a 10.6 K/9. Every offseason, he has pitched either in the Puerto Rican Winter League or the Arizona Fall League as he continues to improve.
