Boston Red Sox & Pittsburgh Pirates Make A Five-Player Trade

The Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates struck a deal tonight that involved five players. The Red Sox are acquiring right-handed pitcher Johan Oviedo, left-handed pitcher Tyler Samaniego, and catcher Adonys Guzman. The Pirates are acquiring outfielder Jhostnyxon Garcia and right-handed pitcher Jesus Travieso from the Red Sox. Garcia is the 85th overall prospect in baseball.

Johan Oviedo 

Oviedo made nine starts this season for the Pirates going 2-1 with a 3.57 ERA, a 4.92 FIP, a 1.22 WHIP, and 42 strikeouts in 40.1 innings. In the minors across four levels, he made eight starts going 1-2 with a 3.12 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, and 36 strikeouts in 26 innings. 

Tyler Samaniego

Samaniego this season made 30 minor league appearances with one of those coming as a start. He went 3-3 with a 3.99 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, and 44 strikeouts in 38.1 innings. 

Adonys Guzman

Guzman in one game at Single-A Bradenton this season after being drafted went 2-5 with a home run and two RBI. In 62 games at Arizona this season he hit .328 with a .907 OPS. He had 12 doubles, nine home runs, 44 RBI, 43 runs scored, and 27 walks. 

Jhostyn Garcia 

Garcia made his big league debut for the Red Sox this season appearing in five games. He went 1-7 with a double and two walks. In 114 minor league games, he hit .267 with an .810 OPS. He had 17 doubles, four triples, 21 home runs, 75 RBI, 79 runs scored, seven stolen bases, and 45 walks. 

Jesus Travieso

Travieso made 19 appearances with 16 of those coming as starts. He went 3-3 with a 3.06 ERA, a 1.49 WHIP, and 90 strikeouts in 64.2 innings.
