Baltimore Orioles Sign Closer

The Baltimore Orioles have kicked off their free agent spending by signing right-handed closer Ryan Helsley to a two-year contract with an opt-out after year one. The deal is for $28 million and is pending a physical. Helsley this past season made 58 appearances between the Cardinals and Mets. He went 3-4. Helsley had 21 saves with a 4.50 ERA, a 4.14 FIP, a 1.54 WHIP, and 63 strikeouts in 56 innings. He struggled once getting to the Mets making 22 appearances going 0-3. He had a 7.20 ERA, a 5.19 FIP, a 1.80 WHIP, and 22 strikeouts in 20 innings.

Ryan Helsley

The Cardinals drafted Helsley in the fifth round of the 2015 MLB Draft. He made 275 appearances for the Cardinals going 31-15. Helsley had 164 saves, a 3.17 FIP, a 1.13 WHIP, and 355 strikeouts in 299.2 innings. In 171 career appearances, he’s 31-18 with a 2.96 ERA, a 3.30 FIP, a 1.17 WHIP, and 377 strikeouts in 319.2 innings. Helsley is a two-time all-star and finished as high as ninth in Cy Young voting in 2024. He’s made eight appearances in the postseason going 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA, 1.70 FIP, a 0.75 WHIP, and 12 strikeouts in eight innings.
