The Baltimore Orioles made several roster moves on Monday to address recent injuries and reinforce their depth. With key players sidelined, the club turned to the Norfolk Tides to bring in reinforcements and maintain momentum in a competitive AL East race.

Orioles Call Up Chadwick Tromp

To bolster their catching depth, the Orioles selected the contract of catcher Chadwick Tromp from Triple-A Norfolk. Tromp, a seasoned backstop with major league experience, brings stability behind the plate. While splitting time in Norfolk, he showed solid defensive skills and provided occasional pop at the plate. His presence should help manage the pitching staff during Maverick Handley’s absence.

Maverick Handley Lands on Injured List

In a corresponding move, the Orioles placed catcher Maverick Handley on the 7-day injured list due to a concussion. Handley had started to gain more regular playing time, but the head injury forced the club to act quickly. As concussions often come with unpredictable recovery timelines, Baltimore moved swiftly to ensure no disruption in game-day operations.

Ryan Mountcastle Transferred to 60-Day IL

The team also transferred first baseman Ryan Mountcastle from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list. Mountcastle suffered a right hamstring strain earlier this month and had not yet returned to full baseball activities. This move confirms that his recovery will take longer than initially expected. As a result, the Orioles lose a key right-handed bat and one of their most consistent run producers for at least several more weeks.

Moving Forward Without Mountcastle

Although losing Mountcastle creates a noticeable gap in the lineup, the Orioles still have options. Ryan O’Hearn has filled in at first base admirably and should continue to receive the bulk of playing time at the position. Additionally, the front office could explore potential trade options as the deadline nears.

Final Thoughts

Injuries have begun to test Baltimore’s depth, but the club remains in a strong position. By promoting Chadwick Tromp and making timely adjustments, the Orioles continue to show resilience. As they push toward the postseason, staying proactive with roster management will remain a top priority.
