The Atlanta Braves will start a three-game series against the Miami Marlins tonight, they are coming off a series win over the Cincinnati Reds in which they outscored them 27-10 over the three games, in their last ten games the Braves are 5-5 and despite the .500 record they’ve outscored their opponents 58-37 in that stretch. Heading into this weekend series with the Marlins the Braves will get a much-needed boost as they try to catch the New York Mets in the National Wild Card as they get second baseman Ozzie Albies back from his fractured left wrist injury. Getting Albies back means they have optioned second baseman Cavan Biggio to Triple-A Gwinnett.
2B – Ozzie Albies
Albies is in his eighth season all with the Braves, he’s a .271 career hitter to this point with a .794 OPS; he has 211 doubles, 31 triples, 139 home runs, 501 RBI, 544 runs scored, 84 stolen bases, and 249 walks. He is a three-time All-Star, a two-time Silver Slugger award winner, and finished 13th in MVP voting in 2021 and 16th in 2023. This season in 90 games before the injury he was hitting .258 with a .717 OPS; he had 28 doubles, a triple, eight home runs, 46 RBI, 47 runs scored, eight stolen bases, and 24 walks.
2B – Cavan Biggio
Biggio is with his fourth organization this season and third different big-league team. This season combined in the big leagues he’s played in 78 games hitting .197 with a .617 OPS; he has five doubles, five home runs, 19 RBI, 27 runs scored, two stolen bases, and 24 walks. With the Braves he played in four games hitting .200 with a .400 OPS; he had one run scored, his lone hit and the run scored came last night against the Reds when he pinch hit in the top of the ninth leading the inning off with a single. At Triple-A Gwinnett this season he played in one game going 1-5 with an RBI, and a run scored.
