Atlanta Braves Roster Moves 7/13/2025

Atlanta Braves Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Atlanta Braves roster moves continue as the team adjusts its bullpen ahead of the final game of the first half against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Braves selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Wander Suero. In corresponding moves, they designated right-hander Michael Petersen for assignment and optioned Daysbel Hernandez to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Suero Gets the Call

Wander Suero, a veteran reliever with MLB experience, now joins the Braves’ bullpen. Most recently, Suero pitched for Triple-A Gwinnett, where he posted solid numbers. Despite his 0-2 record he posts a 1.50 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, and 49 strikeouts in 36 innings. His strong command and ability to induce weak contact made him a top candidate for promotion. The Braves clearly believe Suero can provide reliable innings in middle relief.

With several bullpen arms struggling or dealing with minor injuries, Suero’s addition gives Atlanta another trusted option. The right-hander has previously pitched for the Washington Nationals and brings playoff experience and a calm presence on the mound.

Petersen Designated for Assignment

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Braves designated Michael Petersen for assignment. Although Petersen showed flashes of potential, his recent outings lacked consistency. As a result, the front office decided to open his spot for someone more dependable in high-leverage situations.

Petersen now goes through the waiver process. If unclaimed, he could return to the Braves organization as depth in Triple-A, but another team might take a chance on his upside.

Hernandez Sent Back to Gwinnett

In a separate but related move, Atlanta optioned right-hander Daysbel Hernandez to Triple-A. Hernandez in 30 games is 4-1 with a 2.10 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and 30 strikeouts in 30 innings.

Despite the demotion, Hernandez remains a promising arm. If he improves his control, he may earn another shot in the majors later this season.

Looking Ahead

These latest Atlanta Braves roster moves reflect the team’s urgency to optimize its pitching staff. As the playoff race heats up, every inning matters. Bringing in Suero, removing Petersen, and giving Hernandez time to develop further are strategic steps aimed at long-term success.
