Atlanta Braves Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Atlanta Braves are 2-8 on the new season and continue their series with the Philadelphia Phillies this evening. Ahead of today’s match up the Braves have activated newly acquired relief pitcher Rafael Montero. Montero was traded yesterday in a deal made with the Astros. While the Braves look to right the ship, they continue to make moves. They are trying to get themselves in a decent spot in a very competitive NL East.

Rafael Montero – RHP

The Atlanta Braves have activated Montero ahead of today’s game. The Braves traded for him yesterday in a deal with the Astros for a player to be named later. He has pitched in three games this season for the Astros without a decision. Montero has a 4.50 ERA over four innings pitched this year. He has allowed three hits, two runs, two walks, and struck out five batters so far.

Zach Thompson – RHP

The Atlanta Braves optioned Thompson back to the Gwinnett Stripers today before their game. Thompson will head to Triple-A to continue his 2025 season. Thompson has not pitched for the Braves in the 2025 season so far. He last pitched for Buffalo in Triple-A, the Blue Jays’ affiliate. He played there as part of the Blue Jays organization. In 24 starts for Buffalo, he had a 6-6 record with a 4.61 ERA. He did not pitch at all in the 2024 season. Thompson was signed in free agency to a minor league contract in October of 2024. On April 1st, the Braves selected his contract from the Gwinnett Stripers. His first action of 2025 will come from Triple-A.
