
Today the Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays will face off in Lakeland, FL. The Tigers are 4-4 in Grapefruit League play while the Toronto Blue Jays are 5-3. Today the Tigers have reigning Cy Young award winner Tarik Skubal on the mound. Jose Berrios will oppose him for the Blue Jays. Berrios is the brother-in-law of Tigers shortstop Javier Baez. Baez will be playing shortstop and batting sixth for the Tigers today. Berrios’ wife’s sister is married to Baez. Berrios in his first start went 2.2 innings giving up one run on two hits he struck out two. Baez in his first two games is still looking for his first hit, he has walked once and struck out once.
Skubal will face the top four of the Blue Jays order in Bo Bichette, Vlad Guerrero Jr, Anthony Santander, and George Springer. The Tigers will have Gleybar Torres, Riley Greene, and Kerry Carpenter in the lineup. Skubal went two shut-out innings in his first start of the spring giving up one hit; he struck out one and didn’t issue a walk.
