Chicago Cubs Down on the Farm 6/10-6/16

Chicago Cubs Top 10 Prospects Check-In

RHP – Cade Horton – Iowa Cubs

Horton did not pitch this past series as he has been on the seven-day injured list since May 31st. Hopefully, he will return to action again soon.

OF – Owen Caissie – Iowa Cubs

Caissie played six games in this series. He had 22 at-bats, scored two runs, six hits, five walks, and eight strikeouts, and slashed .273/.393/.591 with a .984 OPS On the series.

2B/3B – Matt Shaw – Tennessee Smokies

Shaw played in five of the Smokies’ games this past week. He had 21 at-bats, four runs scored, five hits, one double, two walks, and three strikeouts. He slashed .238/.304/.286 with an OPS of .590.

OF – Kevin Alcantara – Tennessee Smokies

Alcantara did not play last week for Tennessee.

2B – James Triantos – Tennessee Smokies

Triantos played in five games for the Smokies in the last seven days. He had 22 at-bats, six runs scored, nine hits, two home runs, five RBIs, four strikeouts, and three stolen bases. He slashed .409/.435/.682 with a 1.117 OPS on the week.

1B – Moises Ballerestos – Tennesee Smokies

Ballesteros played in five of the games this week. He had 21 at-bats, three runs scored, eight hits, one double, one triple, two home runs, nine RBIs, one walk, two strikeouts, and slashed .381/.391/.810 with a 1.201 OPS this week. **He has been called up to play for the Iowa Cubs now****

SS – Jefferson Rojas – South Bend Cubs

Rojas is a new addition to the Cubs’ Top Ten prospect lists. He played in five games last week for the Cubs with 20 at-bats, four runs scored, four hits, one triple, one RBI, three strikeouts, and one steal. He slashed .200/.238/.300 with a .538 OPS last week.

SS – Fernando Cruz – Dominican Summer League Cubs Red Team.

Cruz is a new addition to the Cubs Prospect list. He has played in seven games with 22 at-bats, six runs scored, five hits, two doubles, four RBIs, four walks, eight strikeouts, and three stolen bases.

3B – BJ Murray JR – Iowa Cubs

Murray is new to the Cubs Top Ten Prospect list and played in six games this past week. He had 22 at-bats with three runs scored, five hits, two walks, two strikeouts, and slashed .227/.320/.227 with a .547 OPS this past week.

P – Brandon Birdsell – Tennessee Smokies

Birdsell is new to the Cubs’ top 10 prospect list. He made one start last week, going six innings, allowing six hits, two earned runs, two home runs, and five strikeouts. He had a 3.00 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP last week.

The Week Ahead:

Iowa Cubs (31-38)

The Iowa Cubs lost the series against the Columbus Clippers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians, two games to four. Iowa heads on the road to take on the Indianapolis Indians this week for a six-game series. Indianapolis is the Triple-A affiliate for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
